The Ragdoll cat breed is a large, affectionate, and gentle breed that is known for their soft, fluffy fur and calm temperament. They are a relatively new breed, having been developed in the 1960s by a breeder named Ann Baker in California, USA. Ragdoll cats are called so because of their tendency to relax and become limp when they are held or picked up, which makes them feel like a soft ragdoll.

Ragdoll cats are a large breed, with males weighing up to 20 pounds and females weighing up to 15 pounds. They have a semi-long coat that is soft and silky to the touch. Their coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns, including seal, blue, chocolate, and lilac, as well as pointed, mitted, and bicolor patterns. Their eyes are large, round, and bright blue.

One of the most distinctive characteristics of the Ragdoll breed is their calm, friendly temperament. They are known for their easy-going nature and love to be around their owners. They are not as active or playful as some other breeds, but they enjoy gentle play and will follow their owners around the house. They are very social cats and do not like to be left alone for long periods of time.

Ragdoll cats are also known for their intelligence and ability to learn tricks and commands. They are easy to train and can be taught to fetch, walk on a leash, and perform other tricks. They are also very adaptable to different environments and can do well in homes with children and other pets.

Despite their friendly and gentle nature, Ragdoll cats are not without health issues. They can be prone to certain genetic disorders, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), which is a heart condition that can lead to heart failure. It is important to choose a reputable breeder who screens their cats for HCM and other genetic disorders to ensure the health of your Ragdoll cat.

In terms of grooming, Ragdoll cats require regular brushing to keep their coat free of tangles and mats. They shed moderately, but their fur is less likely to cause allergies than some other breeds. They also require regular nail trimming and dental care to maintain their overall health.

Ragdoll kittens are born pure white! Their coloring develops typically within 1 to 2 weeks after birth.
