About Highland Straight Cats

The Highland Straight cat breed is a rare and lesser-known cat breed that is similar to the Highland Fold. However, unlike the Highland Fold, which has distinctive folded ears, the Highland Straight has straight ears, giving them a more traditional cat-like appearance.

Like the Highland Fold, Highland Straights are a relatively new breed that originated in the UK in the 1980s. They are a cross between a Scottish Straight and a British Shorthair, resulting in a cat with a sturdy build and a sweet, gentle personality.

In terms of physical characteristics, Highland Straights have a medium to large build, with a muscular body and long, thick fur that comes in a variety of colors and patterns, including black, white, blue, red, cream, and tortoiseshell. Their eyes are large, round, and expressive, with colors ranging from gold to green to blue.

Highland Straights are known for their friendly and affectionate personalities, and they are a great choice for families with children or for individuals who want a cat that is easygoing and cuddly. They are intelligent and curious cats that enjoy exploring their environment, but they are also content to curl up in your lap and be petted.

It's important to note that breeding Highland Straights with Highland Folds is not recommended, as it can lead to health problems in the resulting kittens. This is because the gene that causes the folded ears in Highland Folds is a dominant gene, and breeding a Highland Fold with a Highland Straight can result in kittens with two copies of the gene, which can cause health problems.

If you're considering adding a Highland Straight to your family, it's important to find a reputable breeder who is knowledgeable about the breed and takes good care of their cats. Highland Straights can be expensive, so it's important to be prepared to invest in quality food, veterinary care, and other necessities.

Highland Straights have the same common ancestor as Scottish Straights.
