About Highland Fold Cats

The Highland Fold cat breed is a relatively new and rare breed that is a cross between a Scottish Fold and a British Shorthair. Like the Scottish Fold, Highland Folds have distinctive folded ears, but they have a more muscular build and a longer nose than their folded-eared cousins.

In terms of physical characteristics, Highland Folds are medium to large cats with a muscular build and a long, tapered tail. They have long, thick fur that comes in a variety of colors and patterns, including black, white, blue, red, cream, and tortoiseshell. Their eyes are large, round, and expressive, with colors ranging from gold to green to blue.

But it's the Highland Fold's distinctive ears that really set this breed apart. Like the Scottish Fold, Highland Fold ears are folded forward and down, giving the cat a unique and charming appearance. However, unlike the Scottish Fold, Highland Folds have a more prominent ear flap, which gives them a more alert and watchful look.

Highland Folds are known for their affectionate and outgoing personalities, and they love to play and interact with their owners. They are also very intelligent and curious, making them excellent pets for those who want a cat that can learn tricks and explore their surroundings.

Despite their unique appearance, Highland Folds are generally healthy cats with few health concerns. However, because of their folded ears, they can be prone to ear infections and earwax buildup, so it's important to keep their ears clean and dry. Like all cats, Highland Folds also benefit from regular veterinary care, including vaccinations, check-ups, and dental cleanings.

If you're considering adding a Highland Fold to your family, it's important to find a reputable breeder who is knowledgeable about the breed and takes good care of their cats. Highland Folds can be expensive, so it's important to be prepared to invest in quality food, veterinary care, and other necessities.

Highland folds have the same common ancestor as Scottish Folds.
